Alex Iwobi will stay at Arsenal to fight for his place even if Arsene Wenger leaves at the end of the season, says former Nigeria international Jay-Jay Okocha.
The 21-year-old rose through the ranks at the Emirates and made his first-team debut in October 2015. He also went on to established himself as a first team regular.
However, the Nigeria international forward has slide down the ladder and have not made an appearance in the Premier League since the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on April 2, generating insinuations that his long-term future could be somewhere else.
The boss on his part, is yet to announce whether or not he will stay beyond this season as manager of Arsenal , but Okocha, who is Iwobi’s uncle, think Wenger’s stay or leave will not affect the youngster’s decision to remain at Arsenal.
“It’s not easy to break into an Arsenal team from youth,” the former Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton Wanderers man told Omnisport.
“A young player won’t cope with a whole season. It’s understandable he’s not been playing recently. Overall he has done well.
“He’s not playing for Wenger. He’s playing for Arsenal, even though Wenger gave him the opportunity. If Wenger goes, he’ll fight on.”
However Okacha hopes the french man continues at Arsenal beyond the current season.
