At last Javier Mascherano scored his first goal for Barcelona after eight years of playing for the club.
The long awaited goal came in the 7-1 thrashing of Osasuna on Wednesday night, it’s the player’s 319 appearances for the reigning Spanish champion.
The veteran player was under pressure from is teammates to record a goal for his club. Normally used as a utility player from the onset and does more of the dirty work to ensure security for his team.
“At first I tried to get out of it but under pressure from my team-mates and the crowd I decided to take it on,” Mascherano said.
“It would have been a fun moment to remember in year to come had I missed it. I wasn’t sure about it at all but it was difficult to say no to my team-mates.”
Mascherano 32 year old joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010 and have since been a regular in the Barca setup.
Messi, Andra Gomes and Paco Alcacer scored in the encounter to equal points with Real Madrid at the top of the La liga table.
