Eden Hazard will be sidelined for the next 10-15 days due to a calf injury according to his national team head coach Roberto Martinez.
The injury may force the midfielder to miss Chelsea’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace on April 1 as it caused the player’s absent from Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Stoke on Saturday. Hazard pulled out from training preparatory to the Stoke game as a result 24 hours earlier.
Belgium is bid to play Greece on Saturday in a World Cup qualifier match and Russia on Tuesday, a friendly encounter with the 26 year old ready to miss both games.
Martinez insist the team doctors will continue to assess the player’s situation amidst the games.
“Eden has suffered an injury before the match against Stoke, it does not look so serious,” Martinez said.
“But he will not play against Greece. We are going to follow the injury.
“It is a big disappointment for Eden that he cannot lead the team. If you want to be a good team, you have to absorb everything.
“This is a good test for us. I see enough players who can take over his role.”
