Jose Mourinho not sure whether or not Wayne Rooney will remain at Manchester United after the Chinese football window which closes next Tuesday.
Rooney contributes very little to Mourinho’s Man United request for success this season. The veteran has been reduced to a squad player under Mourinho.
Some Chinese clubs are purportedly battling to get the signature of the United skipper and are ready to offer as much as £750,000 a week, a figure that would make Rooney world highest earner in the game. And when quizzed on this, the Portuguese manager reacted thus:
“I cannot guarantee that I’m here next week, how can I guarantee that a player is here next season?” said Mourinho.
“What I can guarantee is that if one day Wayne leaves the club it is not because I want him to leave the club.
“I would never push a legend of this club to another destiny.
“You have to ask him if he sees himself staying in the club for the rest of his career or sees himself moving.
“It is not a question for me because I am happy to have him. You have to ask him, not me. I was very open with you in the answer. I don’t want him to leave.
Rooney is currently nursing a muscle injury which has kept him out since February 1.
The player has less than two years left in his £250,000 a week United contract. He may just fancy a move to China.
